Dear Sweetwater Cable TV High Speed Access Customer,

We have received many emails and calls about the security holes in Microsoft products (Internet Explorer, Outlook Express,...). There are now a number of companies who have created usable Browsers and Email programs that might be worth looking at.

There are currently 3 Browsers that have worked hard to become serious in competing with Internet Explorer. Netscape Navigator, Mozilla (Firefox 1.0) and Opera. There are many recent articles concerning the new Mozilla 1.0 release, and it appears that unlike in the recent past, the majority of websites work well within it.

If you choose to download and use any of the new programs, you can still use Internet Explorer. Using one does not limit the use of the other.

In addition to the updated Browsers, there are many Email programs designed to replace Outlook Express. A simple search using "Email" will give you an idea of the magnitude of possiblilites. Eudora and Pegasus are 2 of the more popular alternatives. It should also be noted that the Foxfire has a client Email application that must be downloaded separately called Thunderbird.

This is not a suggestion that you go out and replace your current Browser program, but we want you to keep informed as new information becomes available.

For those of you interested in Firewalls, there is a terrific free version from ZoneAlarm, (www.zonelabs.com). This site has useful information on the value of Firewalls, and protecting your PC from intrusion.

Please remember to keep your anti-virus up to date, and if you don't have an active antivirus program, get one, and run it.

Sincerly,

Sweetwater Cable TV
