Dear Sweetwater Cable TV High Speed Access Customers,

Unfortunately, spammers, virus writers, and other malicious email
senders are very sneaky as to what a legitimate email would look like.
We get numerous complaints concerning customers who receive these
emails, and open them thinking they are from us.

This is a reminder of what a "Legitimate" email from Sweetwater Cable TV
would look like.

Legitimate emails will only come from swtv@sweetwaterhsa.com.

-We always put on the date at the top.

-If directed to a specific individual, it will have their name on it.
If a broadcast email such as this one is sent, it will say "Dear
Sweetwater Cable TV High Speed Access Customers.

-If directed to contact us, it will say whom to contact, and a local
number to call.

-We never direct you to a specific website, unless we are in direct
contact with an individual, and they are discussing a specific issue
with us.

-Finally, know that if you are concerned about an email, you can call
either office in Green River or Rock Springs, and question us concerning
the email.

Please ensure you have a valid, functional and updated anti-virus
program, and keep all security updates installed.

Dear Sweetwater Cable TV High Speed Access Customers,

This message is for those of you using Microsoft. Mac users can disregard.

Microsoft Corp. released an emergency security patch Tuesday to plug a hole in several versions of Windows - including Vista. It is recommended that if you do not have your computer set to download updates automatically, you do a manual update immediately. This update was pushed out a week ahead of a regularly scheduled update. Microsoft told customers last Thursday about a vulnerability in ".ani" files, which are used to change the cursor into an hourglass while a program works, or into a dancing animal or other animation on specially designed Web sites. Security experts said the hole was actively being exploited by hackers to install keystroke-logging programs. As always, please verify you have a fully updated Anti-Virus program, and do scans regularly. It is ultimately your responsibility to ensure your computer does not become infected.

Sincerely, Sweetwater Cable TV

Dear Sweetwater Cable TV High Speed Access Customers,

We have replaced, tested and now have up and running the new DHCP server. This new device has stopped the issue which caused "home" users routers to think they had lost their IP address, even though the modems had not. This was a very complex issue to resolve, as the defective code was very good at hiding itself, even from the experienced engineers monitoring the equipment. While very frustrating for everyone involved, we appreciate your patience as we worked through the issue, found the problem and got the equipment replaced.

Sincerely, Sweetwater Cable TV

Dear Sweetwater Cable TV High Speed Access Customers,

As many of you know, we have been experiencing issues with routers dropping off connection to the cable modems. In nearly all cases, when this occurs, there is not a loss of Internet service, as connecting a pc directly to the modem gives Internet access. Rather, the is a communication issue between the modem and the router.

Our engineers have located a defective script in what is known as the DHCP server, the device that gives out IP's to an authorized customers. Apparently, this script when sent, confuses routers, causing them to release their IP Address, which causes the drop off of Internet connection to everyone behind the router.

Numerous software repairs were unsuccessful in repairing the defective script, so our engineers have completed two tasks. They have created a VPN tunnel to route all DHCP traffic to a known working device, and have overnighted a new router to us. It is hoped the weather will cooperate across the country so we can get this new device installed on Friday.

We will try to give you an hours notice before putting on the device, as there will be a service disruption when we do this. We understand frustration over this issue. Putting on the Internet is a very complicated task, and issues are bound to arrise. It is our goal to try to find problems before they become issues, and resolve issues when discovered in a timely fashion. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely, Sweetwater Cable TV
